Early Life

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles was born on September 4th, 1981 in Houston, Texas. She is the daughter of Mathew Knowles, a Xerox sales manager, and Tina Lawson, a hairdresser and salon owner. Beyoncé showed an aptitude for music from an early age; she began singing in her church choir at age seven.

Career Beginnings

When she was eight years old, Beyoncé's parents enrolled her in dance classes. She soon began performing competitively with the dance troupe that she joined and appeared on several talent shows to showcase her skills.

In 1997, Beyonce formed Destiny's Child along with Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams as part of Columbia Records’ roster. Destiny’s Child became one of the most successful girl groups in history on the strength of chart-topping singles such as “Say My Name,” “Survivor” and “Independent Women Part I” among others.

Personal Life

Beyoncé is married to Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter, whom she started dating in 2002. The couple secretly got married in April 2008 and welcomed their first child, Blue Ivy Carter, on January 7th, 2012. They also have twins named Sir and Rumi who were born in June 2017.
