Born on March 29, 1969, in Taipei, Taiwan, Ted W. Lieu is an American attorney and politician. At the age of three, he immigrated to the United States with his family and settled in Cleveland, Ohio.

Lieu pursued his education at Stanford University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in computer science. He then went on to attend Georgetown University Law Center and received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.

After completing his law studies, Lieu worked as a clerk for Judge Thomas Tang of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit before joining the U.S. Air Force.

In the Air Force, Lieu served as a JAG officer (Judge Advocate General's Corps) and gained valuable legal experience while stationed at various locations around the world.
